ROWING PROGRAMS:
Two Rivers YMCA Rowing offers opportunities for adults and high school-aged youth interested in learning to row, rowing for pleasure and wellness, and rowers committed to achieving excellence in national and international competition.
Learn to Row
Learn-to-Row classes are held two times each summer for anyone in the community interested in learning to row. You will learn the skills and techniques needed to get up and rowing in a short period of time.
The first week of classes will be off the water, learning safety, boat handling and basic stroke techniques. Subsequent classes will be conducted on the water with experienced coaches
Corporate Row
Corporate Row provides companies the opportunity to get members of their organization involved in a two week abbreviated Learn-to-Row experience that culminates in a fun but competitive regatta pitting the various company crews in a challenge to show off their newly acquired skills.

A Rich History
In 1874, a group of men in Moline formed a rowing club, naming it the “Sylvan Boat Club.” Then, in 1884, as a result of their success in Midwest regattas, a group of investors formed “The Moline Regatta Association” for the purpose of holding annual regattas. Investors included S.H. Velie, C.H. Deere and John Deere. Their regattas attracted over 5,000 spectators and crews from all over the Midwest.
The spirit of this sport lives on in the Quad Cities. In 1990, local rowing advocates established Quad City Rowing Association and built the Sylvan Boathouse at the foot of 17th Street, Moline, near the location of the original Sylvan Boat Club boathouse. QCRA members have excelled in competition, winning local, regional and international honors. Many participants in the junior rowing program have gone on to row for prestigious colleges. In 2010, the Quad City Rowing Association merged into the Two Rivers YMCA. Terry Cahill, QCRA past board member and 19-year rowing member said, “I have witnessed many turning points in our history when the right people have come together at the right time. This is one of those points in our history. The combined knowledge of the YMCA and QCRA will enhance our community and expand the sport of rowing.”
