TWO RIVERS YMCA STATEMENT ABOUT THE CURRENT ISSUES FACING OUR COMMUNITY, OUR NATION, AND OUR WORLD

We are saddened by the recent events in our community, our nation, and around the world, and we would like to share our thoughts, concerns, and beliefs. We support peaceful demonstrations and those working toward a more equitable society and we strongly condemn the recent acts of violence, rioting, and lawlessness.

As a leading human service organization founded on Christian principles, we have an obligation to the equality and dignity of every human being. John 13:34 states, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” We must play a role in listening, healing, and contributing to solutions that contribute to equality.

Therefore, as a cause-driven non-profit...

WE BELIEVE in the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and will strive to continue teaching these values to every person.

WE BELIEVE in interfaith and the spirit of humanity; that a vast majority of individuals want to do what is good, just, and right.

WE WILL listen first, acknowledging a problem, and working toward a better us.

WE WILL prioritize inclusion, we ensure that all segments of society have access to the Y, feel welcome, and are fully engaged as participants, members, staff and volunteers; regardless of race, color, gender, ability, sexual orientation, or social-economic status.

WE WILL LEAD our members, donors, volunteers, staff and the broader community to work towards eradicating hatred, bigotry, and racism.

The YMCA is committed to our mission and our community and acknowledges we alone cannot solve this problem. However, we’re committed to doing our part to ensure our community heals, that change occurs, and creating greater equity for all.
