YMCA Quad Cities Rowing Team Brings Home Medals at Head of the Des Moines


On September 28th, the YMCA Quad Cities Rowing team competed at the Head of the Des Moines regatta at Easter Lake, Des Moines, Iowa. It was an incredible day of racing, with our rowers bringing home a haul of medals across multiple events.

One of the day’s brightest stars was Lillian "Lily" Collins, who not only claimed gold in the Women’s Junior 1x but also teamed up with Sophia Foad to take home first place in the Women’s Junior 2x. Collins’ domination continued in the Mixed Junior 4x, where she joined Graham Matlock, Eamon Matlock, and Sophia Foad to clinch another gold.

The Matlock brothers, Graham and Eamon, had a stellar showing as well, securing a gold in the Men’s Open 2x and taking silver in the Men’s Junior 2x. Individually, Eamon earned a silver and Graham a bronze in the Men’s Junior 1x event.

The impressive performances didn’t stop there. Kalie Tessen added a bronze in the Women’s Junior 1x, while the team of Teddy Guroff, Bella Yarbrough, Mahi Choudhary, and Jackson Lindsey brought home a silver in the Mixed Junior 4x.

🥈 Silver: Teddy Guroff, Bella Yarbrough, Mahi Choudhary, Jackson Lindsey – Mixed Junior 4x
🥉 Bronze: Kalie Tessen – Women’s Junior 1x
🥉 Bronze: Graham Matlock – Men’s Junior 1x
With 3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze finishes, the YMCA Quad Cities Rowing team delivered an outstanding performance. Their hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport truly shined on the water.
