Carolina finds motivation at the YMCA

Carolina joined the Y when a friend suggested she give it a try. She was not happy with her weight when she started working out two years ago; it was hard for her to stay motivated because she felt like she was the biggest one in the room.

But when she went to a SilverSneakers class, that changed her out look completely! Carolina decided that if someone older then her could work out that hard and stay fit, so could she. Two years later she is down 36 pounds and has so much more energy to play with her kids!

Swimming, lifting weights, cycling, and Zumba are her favorite activities at the Y and her kids love the Adventure Center. Her kids are her motivation. She wants to set a good example for them and doesn't want them to have to take care of her when she is older due to health issues.

There is always an excuse not to go; it's easier to stay home.... But her husband, kids, and parents encourage her to go every day as it has become a part of their daily routine. Not only is Carolina a mom of 4 children, she also has her CNA degree, is in school for classes to learn about Hospice care, and is taking Adult ESL classes, hoping to graduate this year. She became a US citizen two years ago and is doing everything she can to push her family to be successful.

Carolina feels secure at the Y, she says, "It is a clean, safe, and respectful place for me to workout and take my children to stay active. It's all in your head, tell yourself you can do it and you will, always try new things and don't give up."
