Winner of the Weight Loss Boss Challenge

Meet Y Member, Mindi Geyer, who started this year off as our winner of the Weight Loss Boss challenge: “I've been trying to lose my 'baby weight' since my now-3-year-old was born, and I really struggled to balance parenting, working, and my health. After my daughter turned 3, my husband and I started talking through ways to build a healthy lifestyle for our family, which is how I got involved with the Weight Loss Boss challenge at the Y."

"I didn't expect to win the women's competition, but I figured that increasing my fitness and losing some weight would be a winning situation for me regardless. The overall structure of the program helped me stick with it, and my husband took on a lot more chores in our house than his 'fair share' to support me in the program, which removed many of my excuses for skipping the gym. I really liked the emphasis on weightlifting and saw my 5K time drop from 33 minutes down to 29 with very little running."

"Needless to say I was intrigued to learn more about lifting and signed up for personal training sessions with Ashley because of her experience with training women to do bodybuilding. I learned a lot from her about good form and setting up a lifting routine." "I really appreciate the YMCA's encouraging, Christian environment, and I've used many of their programs this past year including the tri swim class to complete the Quad Cities Triathlon (10 min faster than last year) and my 3rd Bix (5 min faster than last year).”
